Alex J. DeYonker joined Spartan Stores in October 2006 from Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, a 180 lawyer firm, where he had served for four years as Managing Partner and had been a partner since 1988. Alex has served as General Counsel to Spartan Stores since 1995 and as the Company's Secretary since 2000. He was also a Company board member from 1999-2003. His legal experience includes corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, SEC reporting and a general corporate practice. Alex has been listed for over 10 years in "The Best Lawyers in America", is the recipient of the 2010 Stephen H. Schulman Outstanding Business Lawyer Award by the State Bar of Michigan Business Law Section and is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan (former Chairperson of the Business Law Section). He graduated cum laude with a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and holds a B.S. in Psychology with high honors from Michigan State University.
Alex has been a Board Member of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce since January 2008, and was a Board Member of the Grand Rapids Symphony (2007 to 2009), a Member of the Interurban Transit Partnership Major Corridor Task Force (2001 to 2008) and Co-Chair for American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Campaign (2002 to 2008).
